The Rower Inistioge booked their place in the Leinster Intermediate Club Semi Final, but needed extra time to get past a battling Buffers Alley
A week after winning the County Title in Extra time, the Kilkenny champions had to go the distance again to get the better of a stubborn opponent
The Kilkenny side were quick to take the lead, going ahead when Cria Langton opened the scoring for the Rower from a 45’ before adding a second point from a placed ball. Their Wexford rivals hit back when Louise Hammel equalised for Buffers Alley with two points from play before Caoimhe Keher Murtagh and Ciara Kavanagh traded scorers to the stalemate going
Stepping up the pace, the Rower went ahead again, Right from the puck out Caoimhe Keher Murtagh won possession and ran towards the Buffers Alley goal. Looking up she laid off a perfect handpass to Kelly Hamilton, who rattled the back of the net
The leaders pressed on, Langton pointing from a free to which Louise Hammel replied with a brace, leaving the Rower 1-4 to 0-5 to the good at half time
SWAPPED POINTS
On the resumption, Louise Hammel (45) and Cria Langton (free) traded placed scores. Then Hammel and Langton swapped points, before Kelly Hamilton scored a point for the Rower after Caoimhe Keher Murtagh provided the perfect pass
The see saw nature continued as Hammel and Langton again traded pointed frees, before Hammel struck again to leave a point between the sides
The game was heading towards the 60th minute when Buffers Alley were awarded a free on the 45m line at the stand sideline. Louise Hammel hit the free towards the Rower goal posts, but it flew into the net, giving the Wexford girls a two point lead
Things looked tough but the Rower didn’t panic though. Caoimhe Keher Murtagh scored a great point from a tight angle before in injury time, Aine Gannon split the posts from a 50m free at the stand sideline to send the match to extra time (1-9 to 1-9)
From the throw in of extra time, Christine Lyng pointed for the Rower and Cria Langton followed with a pointed free a minute later

Louise Hammel narrowed the gap to a point again at the start of the second period of extra time. Caoimhe Keher Murtagh latched onto a ball and ran at speed towards the Buffers Alley goal, before hitting a bullet of a shot over the crossbar. It was the final score of the game, enough to send the Rower into a semi final show down with O’Moore’s (Laois) on Saturday. Throw in at Dr Tierney Park, Graiguenamanagh is at 1.30pm
