In Group 1 of the Liberty Insurance All Ireland Senior Camogie Championship, Kilkenny produced a stunning second half to record an empathic 2-18 to 0-11 win over Limerick in Bruff last Saturday 9th June
Julieanne Malone got the opening score of the match for Kilkenny in the 2nd minute. Niamh Mulcahy (LK) then scored three points from placed balls putting Limerick two points ahead by the 9th minute. Kilkenny were awarded a Penalty in the 13th minute when Michelle Quilty was fouled in the square. Denise Gaule took the penalty and it was saved by the Limerick goalie, but Denise bounced on the rebound and put it over the bar
A minute later Anna Farrell equalised for Kilkenny after being played in following good work from Katie Power. Limerick scored the next four points between the 17th & 24th minute through Caoimhe Lyons & 3 placed balls from Niamh Mulcahy to leave the visitors trailing 0-7 to 0-3. Davina Tobin and Denise Gaule narrowed the gap to two points. Niamh Mulcahy (LK) and Davina Tobin traded points to leave the half time score 0-8 (LK) to 0-6 (KK)
Whatever was said in the Kilkenny dressing room at the interval, they emerged with all guns blazing for the second period, Katie Power & Laura Stack (LK) traded points before the Cats went on a run of nine scores without reply, with points from Michelle Quilty, Shelly Farrell (2), Meighan Farrell, Katie Power & Denise Gaule (2f) and substitute Miriam Walsh with a trade mark hand pass goal to push the lead out to 1-14 (KK) to 0-9 (LK)
Limerick sharpshooter, N Mulcahy did stop the rot momentarily with a pointed free in the 54th minute. Katie Power & Caoimhe Lyons (LK) swapped pointed by the hour mark. Kilkenny then added another 1-2 without reply. Denise Gaule pointing another free. Michelle Quilty latched onto a through ball from Denise Gaule and found the bottom corner of the net. Heading towards the full time whistle, substitutes Kellyanne Doyle and Grace Walsh combined to find Katie Power in space and Katie slotted over the final score of the match to leave the result Kilkenny 2-18 to Limerick 0-11
Kilkenny have a three week break now, before meeting Waterford on the 30th June in Waterford
