Kilkenny 1-13
Waterford 0-10
In the 3rd Round of the Liberty Insurance Senior Camogie Championship Group 1, Kilkenny struggled against 14 player Deise, beating them by 1-13 to 0-10 in beautiful sunny Walsh Park
The Deise got off to a confidence-boosting start with points from Annie Fitzgerald and Beth Carton, but Michelle Quilty rattled the Deise net in the 3rd minute and Kilkenny were never in arrears again
Carton equalised but points from Denise Gaule (2f) and Anna Farrell put three between them by the 11th minute (1-3 to 0-3). There was a lull in the scoring over the next 9 minutes as play moved from end to end before Beth Carton fired over a 21-metre free to cut the deficit to 2 points. However Katie Power & Miriam Walsh replied with a point a piece from play in the 22nd & 23rd minutes
Again Carton replied with a pointed free for the Suirsiders a minute later but the visitors added 3 points through Katie Power, Denise Gaule (f) and Michelle Quilty to leave 6 points between the sides
On the stroke of half time, Carton rifled a rasper of a shot which was brilliantly saved by Jacqui Frisby in the Kilkenny goal the leave the score 1-8 to 0-5 at the break
Scores were hard to come by in the early stages of the second half before Anna Farrell pointed and this was followed with a straight red card being issued to the Deise goalie for a dangerously high tackle on the inrushing Miriam Walsh. From the resulting penalty which was blocked and cleared upfield only for Anne Dalton to field and fire over a fine point in the 41st minute. The home side raised their game over the next 5 minutes and added 3 points, 2 pointed frees from Carton and Deirdre Fahey from play by the 46th minute
The Visitors bounced back with a point a piece from Grace Walsh, Katie Power and Shelly Farrell to leave the score 1-13 to 0-8
Waterford closed out the match with 2 points from their sharpshooter, Carton to leave the score at the final whistle 1-13 to 0-10
