Clara 3-11

Conahy Shamrocks 1-16

It was third time lucky on Saturday last in sunny John Lockes Park when Clara lifted the Intermediate Title after beating Conahy Shamrocks after an exciting and enthralling encounter

Conahy Shamrocks started off the brighter, when Danielle Morrissey slotted over a pointed free in the 2nd minute

Mary O’Connell equalised for Clara in the 5th minute, also from a placed ball

Danielle Morrissey added another two points for Conahy before Mary O’Connell & Niamh Byrne equalised for Clara with a pointed free a piece

But Conahy put another three points on the scoreboard over the next three minutes through sharp-shooter Morrissey (2) and Meadbh Walsh.

In the 18th minute Mary O’Connell took a free from the 65m line, the Conahy goalie looked to have blocked the shot but it slid off her hurl into the back of the net to put the teams level again

Miriam O’Keeffe (Conahy) collected the sliotar on the 45m line and ran at the defence before slotting over the bar

The Clara took the lead in the 20th minute when the hard-working Mary O’Connell found Keara Ryan who soloed through the defence, hitting a low shot passed the Conahy netminder to put the score 2- 3 to 0-7

Keara Ryan added a further point four minutes later and Lucy Power tagged on a further point for Clara

Three Conahy points from Danielle Morrissey (2) and Meadbh Walsh narrowed the gap to one before Mary O’Connell finished the first half scoring a pointed free for Clara to leave the score at the interval Clara 2-6 Conahy 0-10

On the resumption, Meabh Delaney narrowed the gap to a point again wit ha fine point after being played in by Miriam O’Keeffe

Clara then scored 1-2 without reply, points through Player of the Match, Aisling Nolan and Keara Ryan. The goal came after Keara Ryan took a shot on goal, but it stopped short of the line and Grainne Glynn was on hand to tap it into the net to leave Clara 3-8 to 0-11 in front

This seemed to spur on Conahy as over the next 16 minutes they kept Clara scoreless, scoring 1-4 themselves and going ahead by a point. Danielle Morrissey scoring the four points (3f) and the goal coming from Amy Morrissey

In the 49th minute, Clara’s captain Aisling Curtis went off injured with a suspected knee injury

Mary O’Connell equalised for Clara with a 45-metre free. Keara Ryan then put Clara ahead in the 55th minute with a lovely point after Niamh Byrne played it back out to her after her scoring options were denied

A minute later, Danielle Morrissey scored a pointed free to level matters again

In the 58th minute, Clara’s captain Aisling Curtis re-entered the fray, with her right knee strapped. This gave Clara an extra lift that their Captain was back on the pitch

As full time approached, a free was driven upfield from the Clara defence which Niamh Byrne latched onto and she split the posts to put Clara ahead 3-11 to 1-16

Within seconds the Referee sounded the full-time whistle and Clara were Intermediate champions
