St Brigids 1-07 Piltown 3-21
Piltown went to Kilmanagh on an overcast Sunday morning in round 2 of the league championship to take on St Brigids and came away with an easy victory. The home side did start the scoring as Tara Ronan put the ball over the Piltown crossbar with a free from far out on the right sideline and soon after Piltown replied as Kellyann Doyle collected a breaking ball from a Aoife Norris free and Doyle didn’t miss as she rose the green flag in the third minute. She followed that up with points from a free and a 45, Brigids replied again through Tara Ronan as she scored another free from almost the same spot as her first.
Brigids drew level in the 7th minute when Leah Brett found space, and no one marking her, from a long Ronan sideline cut, she rounded the oncoming Aoife Norris and struck it into the net.
Piltown went up a gear after that set back, with points from Katie Power, Leah Cooney and Aoife Doyle. Piltown started with a goal, and they ended with a goal with roving midfielder Ellen O’Keeffe coming in unmarked and pulling on a ground ball that skedadled in under the legs of Miriam Walton in the Brigid’s goal.
Half Time Score – ST BRIGIDS 1-04 PILTOWN 2-11
The second half continued in the same way that the first half ended, Piltown on top, and scoring. Kellyann, Heather and Leah all scoring points, as the long puckouts, with the breeze and a shorter pitch aiding the Piltown side. Brigids scored three points in the second half with two from Tara Ronan, and one from Lauren Ronan. The third Piltown goal arrived in the 46th minute, scored by Heather Phelan as she kicked the ball into the net after being bundled up by keeper and defender, it was quick thinking by the forward. Chloe Blackmore raised the brát ban after being set up by Kellyann Doyle, and another Doyle ended the match with a fine score, as Aine came short for a pass, got it in hand, turned and struck it over the bar. A fine score to end the game on.
A good victory for Piltown and we play Tullaroan in Piltown on Sunday 8th September.
