Colaiste Mhuire Johnstown were crowned Allianz All Ireland Post Primary Schools Senior B Champions after defeating Roscommon’s Mercy College last Saturday in Banagher
Colaiste Mhuire Johnstown started the match quicker than their opponents and opened up a 0-4 to no score advantage after 10 minutes, Michelle Killeen slotting over two frees and Abigail Whitty & Sarah Kirby tagging on a point a piece
Then Mercy College opened their scoring with a point from a through Hazel Kelly. A minute later, Kelly found the back of the net to level the scores
In the 19th minute, Aoibhe Burke set up Lillian Cleere, who rifled the sliotar past the Mercy College goalkeeper
Michelle Killeen & Siofra Hession traded points to leave the interval score 1-5 to 1-2 in favour of the North Kilkenny school
On the resumption of play, Kaitlin Egan & Michelle Killeen swapped points before Hazel Kelly hit her second goal for the Roscommon side & also added a point to the Westerners a point ahead
The Kilkenny side didn’t panic and hit two points through Abigail Whitty & Orla Brophy. Kaitlin Egan equalised for Mercy, but in the 57th minute, a second goal for the Johnstown team from Aoibhe Burke proved crucial to setting them up for victory
Two points each for both schools through Abigail Whitty & Taylor Corbett (Johnstown) and Kaitlin Egan & Lily Murray (Mercy) finished off the scoring to leave Colaiste Mhuire Johnstown victorious on a scoreline 2-10 to 2-7
