Kilkenny travelled to the Cork Camogie Grounds, Castle Road last Saturday in a Refixture of the game that was postponed due to bad weather in early February and certainly on Saturday conditions were ideal. Kilkenny were in search of their third win from three games having already overcame Limerick and Tipperary
Cork took the lead early with points from Stephanie Dwyer and Meabh Fitzgerald but Kilkenny replied nine minutes in when Niamh Drennan got a goal but the lead changed hands quickly again with Stephanie Dwyer and Leah Ryan edging Cork back in front with points
Kilkenny then hit a purple patch scoring four points without reply through Holly Ryan, Amy O’Shea (2) and Grace Farrell on target as the Cork backs were put under pressure. Cork had alot of possession but found it hard to get past Clodagh Galway in the Kilkenny goal who brought off some excellent saves to deny Cork an opening goal
With the sides evenly matched play swung form end to end, Stephanie Dwyer and Leah Ryan who were proving a hand full for the Kilkenny defence pointed to put one between the sides but with Amy O’Shea on target on the stroke of half time Kilkenny held a two point lead 1-5 to 0-6.
Cork were a completely different side in the second half and they upped the pace to a level where Kilkenny were unable to respond, Leah Hannigan and Dearbhla Ryan swapped points inside eight minutes of the restart, Kilkenny scored their next score an Amy O’Shea point in the 44th minute but Cork then hit them with four goals. Two from Lea Meillouin and Meabh Fitzgerald & Leah Halligan one each, saw Cork effectively put the game beyond Kilkenny’s reach. Now in control Cork piled on the pressure adding to their tally with points from Leah Ryan, Stephanie Dwyer, Leah Hannigan, Lea Meillouin, Cliona Harte and Lauren O’Connor. Amy O’Shea did get another point for Kilkenny on the stroke of full time but Cork ran out convincing winners
