Kilkenny suffered their second defeat in the second Eir U16 All Ireland Championship against Galway played in a wind swept John Lockes Park, Callan last Sunday
Galway got off to the perfect start, when Roisin Coleman scored a goal after 2 minutes. Coleman tagged on a point from a free a minute later before Amy Kenny slotted over a great point from the sideline to put the Westerners 1-2 to 0-0 ahead
Dearbhla Ryan scored Kilkenny’s first point in the 6th minute. Then Coleman and Ryan traded points
Amy O’Shea slotted over a point from a placed ball after one of the Kilkenny players had been pushed in the back. Galway then hit five unanswered points through Amy Kenny, Roisin Coleman (1f, 2 45’s) and Sinead Feeney
Amy O’Shea pointed a free for Kilkenny heading towards the half time whistle to leave the interval score 1-8 to 0-4 in favour of Galway
On the resumption of play, Galway continued where they left off in the first half, Roisin Coleman converting a free
But over the next eight minutes, no scored were added to either tallies as both defences stood strong
In the 39th minute, Dearbhla Ryan ran at speed towards the Galway goal and hit a rasper past the goalkeeper to the back of the net
Amy O’Shea & Amy Kenny then swapped points, before Dearbhla Ryan got in for her second goal, another rasper in the 48th minute to narrow the gap to two points, 2-5 to 1-10
Roisin Coleman converted her seventh free & Kayla Garrett added another point for Galway
Amy O’Shea tagged on two frees for homeside. Kilkenny were awarded a 45 metre free heading towards full time, Amy O’Shea dropped it short, hoping for one of her team mates to connect & send it to the back of the net, but it was to no avail & the Referee blew the full time whistle and Galway were winners on a scoreline 1-12 to 2-7
Kilkenny now play their U16A Leinster Final Refixture against Offaly this Sunday 30th March @ 2.30pm in Pairc Sheamuis Stiophain, Kells Road, Kilkenny and they play their last All Ireland Championship game against Dublin on Sunday 6th April
