Piltown retained the Michael Lyng Motors Senior League Title after defeating Dicksboro last Saturday in John Locke Park, Callan. It was a repeat on last years League Final

Dicksboro got the perfect start. Straight from the throw in, the sliotar was played towards the Piltown goal, Jenny Clifford fielded it and slotted over the bar. In the 4th minute, Aoife Prendergast converted a free over the bar after she was fouled

Kellyann Doyle fired over two pointed frees to level matters after 8 minutes

Dicksboro hit the next two points from a Aoife Prendergast free and from play by Ciara Phelan, but Piltown hit back with their own two points, with a point from play by Sophie Holden and a Kellyann Doyle free

Jenny Clifford fired over a point for the Boro to put them a point ahead. Piltown then hit 1-3 without reply

Kellyann Doyle shooting over three frees and the goal coming from Heather Phelan, after Ellen O’Keeffe had ran at speed towards the Boro goal before handpassing to Phelan and the net rattled

Rachel Dowing finished the first half scoring with a point from play for the Boro to leave the interval score 1-7 to 0-6 in favour of the southern team

On the resumption of play, Katie Power scored a great point for Piltown

Dicksboro then scored the next three points from Rachel Dowling (2) & Asha McHardy

Laoise McKenna tacked on a point for Piltown, which was their last score of the game

The Boro hit three points through Rachel Dowling, Aoife Prendergast (f) & Asha McHardy to narrow the gap to the minimum

Dicksboro tried everything to get an equalising score or a winning goal, but the Piltown defence held strong and the Referee blew the full-time whistle with Piltown winning 1-10 to 0-12

Attention now turns to the Championship Quarter Finals next weekend, where Piltown will play Young Irelands & Dicksboro will play Thomastown. In the other Quarter Finals, St Martin’s will play St Brigid’s and Tullaroan will play James Stephens
