Danesfort 2-10 Mooncoin 2-3
Danesfort are Abbott Intermediate Camogie County Champions for the first time after they defeated Mooncoin in UPMC Nowlan Park last Saturday
Niamh Davis opened the scoring for Danesfort in the first minute with a point from play. Deirdre Walsh then converted two points for Mooncoin. In the 16th minute, Mooncoin’s Deirdre Walsh took a shot towards the Danesfort goal. Their goalie batted the sliotar out but straight to Laura Dillon Dunphy who rattled the net, to put Mooncoin 1-12 to 0-1 ahead
Olivia Mahony got Danesfort’s second point in the second point in the 17th minute, when she converted a free over the bar
Deirdre Walsh added another point for Mooncoin before Olivia Mahony converted two pointed frees to leave the interval score 1-3 to 0-4 in favour of Mooncoin
On the resumption of play, it was a completely different Danesfort team that came back out onto the pitch, as they took complete of the match
Olivia Mahony slotted over a 40m free in the 34th minute and she then added another pointed free 5 minutes later to level the match
Danesfort’s corner Deirdre Phelan tacked on a point to put them ahead. Then in the 47th minute, Aoife Farrell hit a shot towards the Mooncoin goal, Deirdre Phelan got ahead of the advancing goalie & flicked the sliotar to the back of the net
Niamh Davis slotted over a lovely point for the stripey girls. Olivia Mahony tagged on a point to extend the lead out to six points
Mooncoin did everything to try and score something during the second half but Danesfort’s defence stood strong until the 61st minute, when the southerners were awarded a 21m free, Captain Sarah Crowley stood over the sliotar, she hit a low shot and the sliotar nestled in the back of the net
This brought the score back to four points, but heading into the 3rd minute of injury time, Niamh Davis received the sliotar from her defence, she ran at speed towards the Mooncoin goal & she hit a rasper to the net. This was a carbon copy of her goal for the Kilkenny Minors when they won the All-Ireland in April
The Referee blew the full time whistle a short time later & Danesfort were Abbott Intermediate Champions and heading to the Senior Grade for 2026
Danesfort now head to the Leinster Intermediate Club Quarter Finals, where they will play Na Fianna, Meath on the 2nd November in Baconstown, Co Meath @ 2pm
