Dicksboro 3-17 Birr 0-4
Dicksboro had a comprehensive win over Birr last Sunday in Grant Heating St Brendan’s Park, Birr to advance to the AIB Leinster Senior Club Final
Dicksboro won the County Final two weeks ago impressively against Piltown and they continued with a great performance against Birr
Everyone of the starting 15 plus the 5 subs that came on were impressive
Dicskboro will face Oulart the Ballagh in the Leinster Final in two weeks and if they reproduce a similar performance as they did against Birr, they’ll have every chance of claiming another provincial title
Aoife Prendergast opened the scoring for Dicksboro with a point from a free in the first minute. Ellen Regan equalised for Birr with a point from play
In the 9th minute, Dicksboro took complete control of the match. Rachel Dowling hit 1-2, all from play. Her two points coming from poor clearances from the Birr defence. Her goal, from great teamwork. Aoife Prendergast played the sliotar upfield to Jenny Clifford, who made a neat pass to Rachel & she rattled the back of the net
Amy Clifford scored the Boro’s second goal after her sister Jenny played a great ball to her & she blasted the sliotar to the back of the net
Aoife Prendergast converted a 40m free after Lucinda Gahan was fouled. Orla Hanrick added another point for the Boro
Birr scored their second point in the 29th minute, when Mairead Jennings converted a 30m free
Heading into first half injury time, Aobha O’Gorman scored a great point for the Boro. She set off from midfield with the sliotar stuck to her hurl, she dummied two Birr defenders & she slotted over the bar from 14m line
The interval whistle soon sounded & the Boro led 2-6 to 0-2
On the resumption of play, Dicksboro continued their scoring spree. Aoife Prendergast added a point from a free. Lucinda Gahan scored two great points. Captain Orla Hanrick scored a goal after Jenny Clifford found her path to goal blocked, when she was surrounded by Birr defenders. Jenny handpass the sliotar over the defender’s head to the onrushing Hanrick who blasted the sliotar pass the Birr goalie
Hanrick was on hand to convert a 20m free over the bar, after she was fouled herself
Amy Clifford & Asha McHardy slotted over a point each before Mairead Jennings scored Birr’s third point in the 43rd minute
Asha McHardy tacked on another two points for the Boro with Rachel Dowling & Orla Hanrick also adding a point each
Birr substitute Eimear Mooney scored Birr’s fourth point in the 61st minute
Asha McHardy put the icing on the cake, with a great point for the Kilkenny side to see them run out winners by 22 points 3-17 to 0-4
Dicksboro now face a Oulart the Ballagh side that defeated St Vincent’s by 2-17 to 3-5 in the other semi-final. The decider is on in SETU Carlow on Sunday November 16th @ 3.15pm
