On a sunny Sunday morning in the southeast, the ladies from Slieverue and Erins Own, Castlecomer served up an hour of truly entertaining and exciting camogie. This game that was played with a commendable intensity and energy from start to finish saw both teams level at half time. Throughout the second half the game ebbed and flowed in different directions and all present would have thought that Slieverue’s second goal scored in the 52 minute would prove to be the decisive score, however, the Comer girls had a different idea. The ladies in blue rallied and scored the last two points of the game to give them victory on the slenderest of margins.
The Slieverue players, management and supporters can’t but be proud of the effort put in by their team. They chased, battled and put their bodies on the line when necessary and can consider themselves unfortunate not to at least see the game go to extra time. The Erin’s Own group should celebrate a victory that was testament to a steely resilience, a relentless determination and some fine camogie that ultimately proved the importance of never giving up. Both teams have earned a well-deserved break and their efforts and exploits in this extremely entertaining game should act as a strong platform for the 2026 season.
