AIB Leinster Senior Final

Dicksboro 0-17 Oulart the Ballagh 1-13
Dicksboro won their second AIB Leinster Senior Club title last Sunday afternoon in SETU Carlow, when they overturned a five point deficit at half time against Oulart the Ballagh to win 0-17 to 1-13
This final was expected to be a tight affair & it proved to be that, with the teams level on six occasions. Extra time looked likely. Until right on the hour, Ciara Phelan’s point secured the Leinster Senior Club Crown for Dicksboro
Boro Captain Orla Hanrick opened the scoring with a point from play within the first minute. Rachel Dowling added another point for the Kilkenny side before Oulart the Ballagh opened their account, with points from Una Lacey & Shelley Kehoe to equalise after three minutes
Jenny Clifford then scored a lovely point after a neat pass by Aobha O’Gorman. Lucinda Gahan extended the lead for the Boro, when she slotted over the bar
Anais Curran converted a free for Oulart. In the 15th minute, Oulart were awarded a Penalty after Curran was fouled & Una Lacey was foiled when Dicksboro ‘keeper, Cara Duggan made a great save from her well struck shot
Rachel Dowling tacked on a point from play for the Boro but by the 21st minute, the match was level again, after Anais Curran slotted over two points
Jenny Clifford & Aideen Brennan traded points. Amy Clifford put the Boro ahead again, but Oulart then hit a purple patch, hitting 1-3 without the reply
Points coming from Anais Curran, Bronagh Kenny & Shelley Keogh and the goal coming on the stroke of half time. Full Forward Una Lacey broke through the Boro defence, she hit a low shot into the bottom corner of the net to give the Wexford Champions a 1-9 to 0-7 advantage at the interval
Donal Carroll’s side didn’t panic though and they came out for the second half, all guns blazing
Lucinda Gahan scored a point for the Boro straight from the throw in and Rachel Dowling added another point for the Kilkenny side
Over the next ten minutes, both teams tried to add to their tally, but to no avail. However, in the 42nd minute, Anais Curran converted a free over the bar for Oulart. Asha McHardy scored two beautiful points for the Boro
This was followed by a great point from Aobha O’Gorman after the sliotar was played forward from the Boro defence. The Boro captain Hanrick was out in front of her marker and as she lifted the sliotar, looked up & saw the onrushing Aobha O’Gorman coming towards her, she gave her a neat pass & O’Gorman slotted over the bar to just leave the minimum between the teams
Oulart hit the next two points through Shelley Kehoe & a free from Anais Curran
Lucinda Gahan laid off a pass to Jenny Clifford & she slotted over the bar. Asha McHardy got her third point after she intercepted an Oulart puckout
Rachel Dowling converted a free to level matters in the 57th minute. Rose Kelly’s point then edged the Boro ahead, but a free from Anais Curran tied up the match for the sixth time
Heading towards the full-time whistle, Dicksboro played the sliotar towards the Oulart goal, it was cleared away to safety, but Ciara Phelan nipped in before it was cleared further down the field and she drilled over the winner
Three minutes of additional time were announced, the Boro held on. When the Referee blew the full time whistle there was great celebrations
Asha McHardy was announced as Player of the Match. She was presented with her award by Jason Dempsey from AIB. Martin Quilty then presented the Cup to the Boro captain, Orla Hanrick
Dicksboro now head to the All-Ireland Semi Final where they will play Athenry (Galway) on 29/30 November, with time & venue to be confirmed
