Loreto are Allianz Corn Sceilge Post Primary Senior A All Ireland Champions winning 4 in a row and 11th title since 2010 after defeating Ursuline Thurles comprehensively by 16 points, 4-13 to 0-9
Their defence was excellent in shutting out the threat posed by Tipperary Senior Player Caoimhe Stakelum & Alice Butler
Caoimhe Stakelum shot over the first score of the game after a minute & 30 seconds. Shauna Mahony scored Loreto’s first point after Leah O’Donovan’s shot on goal was blocked out by the Tipperary defence in the 4th minute. Stakelum converted a free a minute later that had been brought forward
Lucy Boyd put Loreto in control over the next five minutes. She scored a lovely point before she got in for a peach of a goal, hitting an unstoppable shot passed the Thurles goalkeeper and she hit over another point after the initial shot by Holly Ryan has been batted out by the Tipp schools defence
Aoife Kirby extended Loreto’s lead with an excellent point 1-4 to 0-2. Stakelum converted two frees over the bar with a Loreto point from Shauna Mahony sandwiched in between
In the 23rd minute, Loreto got their second goal, Leah O’Donovan hit a rasper of a shot towards the Thurles goal, their goalkeeper saved It, but it wasn’t cleared & Emma Hogan was quickest to react and she tapped the sliotar into the net
The hardworking Eleanor Doheny then got on the scoreboard with a fine point for the Kilkenny school
Stakelum (f) & Holly Ryan traded points. Heading towards the half time whistle, Stakelum closed out the scoring with a pointed free to leave the interval score 2-7 to 0-6 in favour of Loreto
During half time the heavens opened, which would make the conditions hard for the new half
On the resumption of play, Loreto upped the pressure and Boyd stretched their lead with a goal in the 34th minute, similar to her first half goal
Stakelum immediately responded with a pointed free. Ona Kennedy slotted over a pointed free before Lucy Boyd tacked on another lovely point for Loreto
Leah O’Donovan put the game out of Ursuline’s reach with Loreto’s fourth goal. Stakelum tagged on a pointed free for Thurles with the score now 4-9 to 0-8 to Loreto
Alice Butler tacked on a point for Thurles which was their last score of the match. Over the closing minutes of the half, Ona Kennedy converted two pointed frees. Lucy Boyd got in for another point to finish with a tally of 2-4 to pick up the Player of the Match award and Kate Dowling finished the scoring with a nice point to leave Loreto comprehensive winners, 4-13 to 0-9
