Kilkenny suffered their first defeat in the Centra Senior Camogie League Division 1A when Cork were visitors to Pairc Lachtain, Freshford last Saturday where the Rebelettes winning 1-15 to 0-9. Cork had their St Finbarr’s contingent back for the match
Cork had advantage of the breeze in the first half and had three points on the board though Hayley Ryan, Emma Murphy (f) & Sorcha McCartan before Aoife Prendergast fired over Kilkenny’s first point from a free on fourteen minutes
McCartan added another point from a free for Cork
In the 18th minute, Kilkenny were awarded a Penalty, after Caoimhe Keher Murtagh was fouled in the square, Aoife Prendergast took the Penalty, but it flew over the bar
Emma Murphy and Hayley Ryan slotted over a point each for the visitors. Aoife Prendergast scored a great point from play over her shoulder in the 21st minute
McCartan who had taken over the free taking for Cork, slotted over another point. Prendergast closed out the scoring of the half with a pointed free to leave the interval score 0-7 to 0-4 in favour of Cork
On the resumption of play, McCartan converted another free to put Cork four points ahead, but over the next ten minutes, the home side kept the Rebelettes scoreless. Kilkenny drew level during this period with a brace of pointed frees from Aoife Prendergast and further white flags from Asha McHardy & Sarah Barcoe
Cork then hit a purple patch, hitting 1-4 without reply. Ashling Thompson hit two points, Orlaith Cahalane bagged 1-1 and Sorcha McCartan tacked on a point from play
Aoife Prendergast slotted over a pointed free for Kilkenny which was the home sides last score of the match
Cork then added another three points through Sorcha McCartan (f), substitute Isobel Sheehan & Hayley Ryan to leave the full time score Cork 1-15 Kilkenny 0-9
Next up for Kilkenny is an away game against League holders Waterford next Saturday in Azzuri Walsh Park @ 3pm
