Three more points and two wins from two. Kilkenny continued their good start to the All-Ireland Championship when they left Parnell Park on the back of a superb win over Dublin
A brace of goals from Sarah Barcoe proved decisive as the Cats racked up a big win over their hosts
While Aisling Maher opened the scoring in the first minute, pointing a free for the hosts. Kilkenny blitzed in front and were well clear by the 23rd minute
A string of points from Aoife Prendergast (4fs), Sarah Barcoe, Emma Shortall, Asha McHardy (2) & Steffi Fitzgerald saw them drown out a Claire Gannon point to race 0-9 to 0-2 clear of the Dubs
Although the Dubs hit three unanswered points through Aisling Maher (2) & Sinead Wylde, Asha McHardy closed out the first half scoring with a point for Kilkenny. That left the scoreboard reading 0-10 to 0-5 in favour of the visitors at the break
Kilkenny were quick off the mark on the resumption of play, Caoimhe Keher Murtagh scored a great point for Kilkenny after Sarah Barcoe found her in an unmarked position
Aisling Maher tacked on a pointed free for the Dubs – this was followed by another point for the homeside by Grace O’Shea. Sarah Barcoe & Laura Murphy slotted over a point each for the Cats with an Aisling Maher free sandwiched between, leaving five points between the sides (0-13 to 0-8)
With 43rd minute on the clock, Kilkenny took a huge step towards victory. Sarah Barcoe struck the first Kilkenny goal, doing well despite pressure from two Dublin defenders to get her shot away and hit the right corner of the net
Aisling Maher led the reply when she fired over two pointed frees before Dublin Captain Niamh Gannon added a point
The game continued to swing from end to end, as first Laura Greene & Aoife Prendergast (2) shot over points for Kilkenny but midfielder Sinead Wylde added a point for Dublin
Barcoe would seal the deal in injury time with her second major to push Kilkenny ten to the good. Maher raised a consolation green flag at the death for Dublin from a Penalty, but the score wasn’t enough to prevent Kilkenny from posting two wins from two
The Cats will be hoping to make it three from three when they take on Offaly in UPMC Nowlan Park on Saturday afternoon. Throw in is at 4.30pm
