U16A League Final
Erins Own continued their excellent run of recent underage successes with a dominant display to win the U16A league final in Tullogher on a very pleasant Friday evening. This win continues a purple patch of underage success for Erins Own who added the Feile A National title in 2026 to U14 championship successes in 2024 and 2025 – and they will be strong contenders for the U16A championship title based on an excellent display in this league final. For Tullogher, the scoreline doesn’t fully reflect what was an excellent first half display where they had the margin down to two points (2-5 to 0-9) in the 27th minute but three goals at the end of the first half proved to be too much to overcome on the night.
Backed by strong local support, Tullogher tore into the match from the off backed by the slight breeze and had a 0-3 to 0-0 scoreline within three minutes with scores from Hannah Sidney, Ruby O’Leary and Dearbhla Ryan. Both sides then took turns in having periods of dominance – Erins Own rattled in 1-5 without reply by the time of the first water break with the scores from Eilis Boland (1-1) & points from Zara Renwick, Megan Harding, Katie Harnett, and Ciara Maguire. Tullogher looked in big trouble when Zara Renwick then added a second goal moments after the restart from the water break which pushed the margin out to eight points but they then proceeded to take over the contest for the next ten minutes which saw five excellent points from Dearbhla Ryan and a score from Bridget Mai Murphy to reduce the deficit to two points. However, Erins Own showed their clinical edge in the minutes prior to half time as they plundered three further goals from Katie Harnett, Ciara Maguire and Sarah O’Neill to leave the half time score at 6-5 to 0-9.
The second half saw both sides trade scores throughout the 30 minutes but the goal burst before half time had largely finished the match as a contest. With the wind elements, Erins Own continued to pile up scores with the excellent full forward line of Eilis Boland, Ciara Maguire and Zara Renwick looking dangerous throughout and try though Tullogher did throughout this period, they never looked likely to reel in the strong advantage that Erins Own enjoyed. For Erins Own, am excellent team performance where they showed good composure all over the field particularly in terms of finding the girl in a better position and working well as a team – and their inside forwards were largely unmarkable on the night. For Tullogher, it was a tough end to what has been a very good U16A league campaign but all played to the end and they were well served by Rachel Murphy, Dearbhla Ryan, Sarah O’Leary and Bridget Mai Murphy.
