Minor A Summer League Final
Tullaroan 5-11 Mooncoin 1-2
Tullaroan, the U16A champions of 2024, served notice that they are still the dominant team at this age grade with an emphatic win in the Minor A league final played in Mooncoin last weekend. This was a match that didn’t fully represent the quality of the Mooncoin girls who had played well in all earlier rounds to make this league final – as Tullaroan’s combination play and skill level was superior for long periods of this match.
The opening exchanges were keenly contested with both sides having opportunities to score and after ten minutes, the only recorded scores were two Tullaroan points from the impressive Ella Walton and Katie Dunphy. Tullaroan did stretch out the lead to 1-2 after a smart finish to the net by Ella Walton and although Keelin Hennebry opened Mooncoin’s account with a pointed free soon afterwards, they were struggling to make inroads against the Tullaroan rearguard with Sinead Cash directing operations for Tullaroan. Still the margin stood at a manageable 1-4 to 0-2 by the 25th minute but the five minutes to half time saw Tullaroan add a further 1-2 (the goal being an excellent finish by Katie Dunphy) to stretch the half time lead to 2-6 to 0-2.
The second half followed a similar pattern and Tullaroan had stretched their lead to 4-10 to 0-2 by the three quarter hour mark with further scores from Eleanor Doheny, Shannon Doheny, Ella Walton, Katie Dunphy. Mooncoin were in trouble all over the field in this half which quickly went away from them as Tullaroan’s teamwork and stickwork was too good for them on the night. They did rally with a goal of their own in the 48th minute but Tullaroan replied with a fine Ella Walton goal and closed out the match with further scores from Juliette Mulligan, Shannon Doheny and Ella Walton. On this form, Tullaroan will be strong favourites for the Minor A championship which starts on 18th August but there are other contenders in this nine team championship who will compete strongly for this title.
