Piltown are Michael Lyng Motors Senior Camogie League Champions after they defeated Thomastown in Pairc Lachtain last Saturday
For the first 9 minutes of the match, both teams tried to open their tally, but both defences stood strong until Therese Donnelly got around her marker in the 10th minute and scored a fine point from a tight angle. Eva Hynes extended Thomastown’s lead, when she converted two frees
Ruby Norris opened Piltown’s account in the 17th minute with a fine point after a neat pass from Kellyann Doyle
Doyle then converted two frees to equalise the match, but Thomastown scored the next three points through Sophie McCabe & Eva Hynes (2f). Heading towards the half time whistle, Piltown started to come more into the game and they scored two, a point each from the Doyle sisters, Kellyann & Aoife to leave the interval score 0-6 to 0-5 in favour of Thomastown
On the resumption of play, Grace Farrell shot over a point for Piltown to equalise and Sophie Holden played in Leah Cooney for a fine point to put Piltown ahead for the first time. Kellyann Doyle slotted over a point for Piltown before Anna Farrell & Eva Hynes added a point each to equalise the match again (0-8 each)
Piltown scored thee unanswered points from two of the Doyle sisters, Kellyann (2) & Aine. Aine scoring her point only a minute after being introduced as a substitute
Anna Farrell tacked on a point for Thomastown. Then in the space of 2 minutes, Aine Doyle had scored a goal & point for Piltown to put them six ahead. Eva Hynes did get in for a goal for Thomastown, but it was their last score of the match in the 52nd minute
Piltown took control over the final minutes of the match. Sophie Holden slotted over a great point, Kellyann Doyle converted two frees and Ruby Norris also added a point
The final score of the match fell to the younger of the Doyle sisters, Aine scoring a nice point. She contributed 1-3 of the final score
The Referee blew the final whistle & Piltown were crowned Michael Lyng Motors Senior League Champions for the second year in a row
Championship Quarter Finals are next weekend and Piltown will play St Brigid’s & Thomastown will play Young Irelands
