By kristinagunn Wed 4th Mar

There is a busy weekend of inter county action ahead this weekend with four Kilkenny county teams in action. Irish Daily Star National League Division 1 Group 2 round 1

Kilkenny vs Cork (Sunday)

Venue: Cork Referee: Ray Kelly

The senior Kilkenny team will be hoping to get there league campaign off to a good start when they travel to Cork to take on the home side in the first round of the league on Sunday. This is a replay of last seasons All Ireland final where Cork edged out Kilkenny in a cracker of a game. Kilkenny under new management of Fintan Deegan will want to begin the defence of there league crown with a win on Sunday and lay down a marker for the year ahead. Training has being going well for the side and they had good recent workouts against Offaly and Galway. Kilkenny’s focus will be on later in the year but a victory on Sunday will diminish memories of last Septembers defeat and will begin the defence of the league title on a good footnote.

Irish Daily Star National League Division 2 Group 2 round 2

Kilkenny vs Tipperary (Sunday)

Venue: The Ragg Referee: Richard McNicholas

The Kilkenny intermediate side will be hoping to make it two wins from two when they travel to The Ragg in Tipperary to take on the home side on Sunday. The intermediates had a good opening day win against Meath 1-07 to 0-03 points in tough conditions in Thomastown. Tipperary on the other hand shipped a heavy beating to Waterford 2-21 to 0-04 points. It will be very difficult for the home side against last years All Ireland Finalist and a victory over the cats would be paramount to avoid finishing bottom of the pile. In saying this, The Cats will have too much for the Premier and Kilkenny should record there second victory over the premier on Sunday.

Leinster u16 Championship Division A 1st Round

Kilkenny vs Dublin (Sunday)

Venue: DCU Referee: TBC

The under 16 side will begin there Leinster campaign with a tough assignment away to Dublin on Sunday. The side was very unlucky last season to suffer some narrow losses in the championship campaign but bounced back brilliantly to claim the shield honours. Kilkenny face the metropolitans for the second season in a row with the Dubs claiming a narrow two point win 1-10 to 1-08 over the kittens last season. Kilkenny have being going well in training and recent challenge games and will be confident of reversing the trend and claim an away victory on Sunday.

Leinster u16 Championship Division b 1st Round

Kilkenny vs Wicklow (Saturday)

Venue: Glenmore Referee: TBC

For the first time ever Kilkenny will enter a B team in the U16 Leinster Championship and will entertain Wicklow in Glenmore on Saturday. It will be a tricky assignment for the Kittens as Wicklow would be looked on as underdogs for the tie, but have being making great strides in recent years. In saying this you have to fancy the cats to claim an opening day win on Saturday.

Your Support for all sides at the weekend would be appreciated.
