St.Brigids prove too strong for Tullaroan to claim Intermediate League title

Bronagh Neary finished with 2-04 as St Brigid’s prove too strong for Tullaroan and claimed the Intermediate league crown in Clara on Saturday evening.

It was Tullaroan who started the game the brighter and opened the scoring through Miriam Walsh in the first minute. St Brigid’s responded with 1-01 on the trot from Bronagh Neary. She started the run with a forty five in the sixth minute. She then got in for a goal in the tenth minute when she latched onto breaking ball on the edge of the small square and dispatched the sliotar to the net to make it 1-01 to 0-01. Tullaroan bounced back with 1-02 on the spin. Noelle Maher got in for a goal in the eighteenth minute when she latched onto a breaking ball to tap home from close range. Rachel Buckley then tapped over a point in the twentieth minute before Ailish Langton tapped over a point a minute later from forty five meters. St Brigid’s were then awarded a penalty in the twenty fourth minute after Laura Hennessy was fouled. Bronagh Neary’s effort was saved, from the resulting breaking ball Laureena Murphy tapped over a point from twenty one meters.  Bronagh Neary then got in for a goal in the twenty sixth minute after latching onto a Laureena Murphy pass to blast to the back of the Tullaroan net. Aisling Dunphy then tapped over a point in the twenty eight minute to see St Brigid’s lead 2-03 to 1-03 at the break.

St Brigid’s continued where they left off in the first half and opened the second half scoring with a point from Therese Muldowney in the thirty third minute. Niamh Dowling responded for Tullaroan with a free from fifty meters in the forty fourth minute. Bronagh Neary responded with a point for St Brigid’s in the forty third minute. Tullaroan stormed right back into the game when Miriam Walsh latched onto a breaking ball on the edge of the small square and blasted the sliotar to the back of the St Brigid’s net to cut the gap to a point 2-05 to 2-04. St Brigid’s bounced back with three points on the trot. Bronagh Neary started the run with a free in the forty eight minute before Laureena Murphy tapped over a point in the fiftieth minute.  Bronagh Neary then tapped over a further free in the fifty first minute after Laureena Murphy was fouled to make it 2-08 to 2-04.  Ella Moore responded for Tullaroan with a point from twenty one meters in the fifty seventh minute.  Tullaroan tried their best to get the crucial goal that would bring them back into the game, but the St Brigid’s defence held firm. St Brigid’s sealed victory in the sixtieth minute when Sarah Dunphy latched onto a breaking ball to tap over a point from twenty one meters to secure victory on a 2-09 to 2-05 score line and claim the Intermediate league title.  Both sides must now focus their attention to the championship semi finals that are due to take place in three weeks time.
