Dicksboro 1-7

Piltown 0-8

Cityside Dicksboro made history in dramatic fashion when capturing the Kilkenny Senior Camogie Championship for the first time

A late, late goal from former county star, Jenny Clifford defeated Piltown in John Lockes Park on Sunday after a ding-dong struggle between the two well matched teams

Katie Power opened the scoring for Piltown in the first minute when she pointed from play. A minute later, Ciara Phelan equalised for the ‘Boro

Orla Hanrick then added two points (1f) for Dicksboro to leave them ahead after 10 minutes

County star Katie Power played a great ball to the onrushing Aoife Doyle & the latter sent a rasper towards the Boro goal but the sliotar whizzed past the upright and narrowly wide

Pressure

The winners piled on the pressure. They had two efforts for scores cleared by Piltown defence. Having withstood the storm, the Southerners rallied and Marlise Flynn did well to tack on a point in the 13th minute

During the following 10 minutes both sides had plenty of chances to add to their tallies but failed to register as both defences threw everything into the effort to protect their goal

On the 24th minute mark, Kelly Ann Doyle levelled matters when she fired over a 45-metre free which came about following a deflection from the city sides defence

Jenny Clifford replied immediately for Dicksboro when she slotted over a lovely point from the 20-metre line out on the wing

The Piltown side had the last score of the first half when Aoife Doyle levelled matters yet again when she fired over in the 29th minute. Half Time score – 0-4 each

On the resumption, Asha McHardy got Dicksboro off the scoring mark when she added a point in the 33rd minute. Katie Power equalised within a minute

Norris Point

The Southern side went ahead when Laura Norris slipped in for a point on the 37th minute, but the lead was short lived. Orla Hanrick squared it all up again shortly afterwards

Again, like in the first half there was a spell of 10 minutes or so when both sides defended magnificently but neither could add to their tally, although each side shot two wides

Kelly Ann Doyle won the lead for Piltown when she pointed from a 45-metre free in the 50th minute. As each side tried to get on top during the next 10 minutes the defending was magnificent

With the clock running down, Edel Long scored to put two points between the sides. This was in the first minute of additional time

With time running out for the city side, they mustered one mighty last effort. The ball was driven upfield towards goal. Jenny Clifford doubled on the sliotar and sent it flying to the back of the net

A Chance

Aoife Doyle did get a chance to rescue Piltown, but Kirsty Maher brought off a great save and cleared the sliotar upfield.

The ‘Boro were awarded a free and Aoife Prendergast scored the insurance point to give the Palmerstown outfit the honours
