Piltown are Michael Lyng Motors Hyundai Senior League Champions after defeating Dicksboro in UPMC Nowlan Park
This was a double header with the Abbot Intermediate League Final. It was a special occasion to have both Club League Finals in UPMC Nowlan Park
Piltown had the perfect start to the match with Ellen O’Keeffe opening the scoring with a fine point straight from the throw in. Then a minute later, Piltown were awarded a free in their own half, Aoife Norris came from her goal and struck it. It flew straight into the net, deceiving defenders, forwards and even the ‘Boro goalie
Dicksboro started to settle and hit the next three points through Asha McHardy, Aoife Prendergast (f) & Ciara Phelan to narrow the gap to one point. This was the closet that the ‘Boro got to Piltown
Katie Power & Aoife Prendergast (f) traded points, before Asha McHardy pointed for the ‘Boro which was sandwiched between two points a piece from Kellyann Doyle & Heather Phelan (2f)
Asha McHardy tacked on a lovely point from play for the ‘Boro before Ellen O’Keeffe hit over her second point after Kirsty Maher had batted out a Kellyann Doyle shot on goal
In the 26th minute, Kellyann Doyle played in a long ball towards the town end goal, Katie Power fielded the sliotar, turned and buried the sliotar to the back of the net. Two minutes later Sophie Holden added another point for the South Kilkenny side
Heading towards the half time whistle, Asha McHardy ran at speed towards the O’Loughlin Gaels but she was taken down in the square and the referee signalled for a penalty. Aoife Prendergast stood over the sliotar, she now faced her Intercounty colleague Aoife Norris. Aoife Prendergast struck the sliotar but Aoife Norris went the right way, saving it and cleared it away from danger
The Referee blew the whistle a short time later, leaving the Interval score 2-8 to 0-6 in favour of Piltown
On the resumption of play, Heather Phelan converted a free for Piltown before Lorna O’Shea added another point for them to push out the lead to 10 points
Dicksboro didn’t panic as they hit five unanswered points through Aoife Prendergast (2f, 1 45), Rachel Dowling & Orla Hanrick to leave the score 2-10 to 0-11 after 43 minutes
Over the next 10 minutes, both teams tried to add to their tallies, but both defences stood strong
Piltown substitute Aoife Doyle scored a great point on the run, before Orla Hanrick scored a lovely point for the ‘Boro
In the 58th minute, Aoife Doyle went down with a knee injury and after a short hold up in play, Aoife was carried off
Aine Doyle closed out the scoring with a fine point from play for Piltown, leaving the final score Piltown 2-12 Dicksboro 0-12
