Kilkenny Senior Camogie Team started their first Very Camogie League match with a defeat against Galway played in MW Hire Training Centre, Dunmore last Saturday
Miriam Bambrick & Katie Nolan gave Kilkenny the perfect start with points from play in the first & fourth minutes before Sabina Rabbitte got the Westerners off the mark
The homeside added the next three points, all from play through Katie Nolan, Asha McHardy, which was a great point out at the sideline and Steffi Fitzgerald
Niamh Mallon slotted over a great point for Galway after a neat pass from Sabina Rabbitte. Carrie Dolan added a point from play for the Westerners
Two Aoife Prendergast frees kept the ball rolling for Kilkenny, but Galway skipper Carrie Dolan & Niamh Niland tacked on points for Galway, to ensure that there were only two points between the sides at the interval
Prendergast extended Kilkenny’s lead at the start of the second half with a pointed free, Mairead Dillon slotted over the bar for Galway before Carrie Dolan fired over two frees to tie the match for the first time
The momentum was now with Galway, Ailish O’Reilly adding a point. A few minutes later, Galway were in on goal, but for a brilliant hook by Kilkenny’s Centre Back, Caoimhe Dowling and the danger was adverted briefly
Sabina Rabbitte then pointed to push Galway two clear. Aoife Prendergast added a point from a free after she had been fouled herself
The Westerners tacked on another two points through Ailish O’Reilly & Olwen Rabbitte before Prendergast narrowed the gap to two points with a point from a 45m free
Ailish O’Reilly then scored a great point for Galway from a very angle. Heading towards full time, Aoife Prendergast scored a pointed free for the homeside, but it was the Westerners who left Dunmore with the 3 points on a scoreline 0-13 to 0-11
