Kilkenny lost their second home game of the Glen Dimplex Senior All Ireland Championship when Galway visited UPMC Nowlan Park last Saturday
Sabina Rabbitte opened the scoring with a point from play for Galway, before Ailish O’Reilly put her name on the scoresheet with a point from play
Sarah Barcoe & Caoimhe Keher Murtagh scored a point a piece for Kilkenny to level matters after 9 minutes
Carrie Dolan slotted over a pointed free for Galway before Kilkenny scored two points through Caoimhe Keher Murtagh & Aoife Prendergast (f) mid way through the first half to leave the score 0-4 to 0-3 and added just one more white flag through Aoife Prendergast in the half
Galway had to work hard for their scores, Carrie Dolan slotted over two points, Aoife Donohoe added on another point, while Ciara Hickey hoisted over a majestic effort that put two between the sides (0-7 to 0-5) at the break
On the restart, Kilkenny were level within two minutes with points from Katie Power & Aoife Prendergast (f)
Galway slotted over two points from Carrie Dolan (f) & Mairead Dillon, after she barged her way through the Kilkenny defence
Aoife Prendergast (f) & Aoife Donohoe traded efforts before Galway scored the next three points through Carrie Dolan (f), Caoimhe Kelly & Sabina Rabbitte with Aoife Prendergast registering a point from a free for Kilkenny
The Tribeswomen were coming up with the big plays, one of which saw Aoife Donohue set up Carrie Dolan for a point with a wonderful lift on the run and under pressure on the left sideline
Galway added a further two points through Dolan (f) and Niamh Mallon
Laura Murphy did get a point back for Kilkenny before Dolan slotted over another point for the Tribeswomen
Niamh Niland then picked the pocket of a Kilkenny defender & hit the back of the net from a tight angle
Aoife Prendergast finished the scoring with a pointed free to leave Galway eight-point winners
Kilkenny will now play in the All-Ireland Senior Quarter Finals on the weekend after next, with opponents to be confirmed after next week’s final group games
